Documentation:
* Church records, Island of Fehmarn, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany
* Germans to America CD#355 showing the family traveled to America steerage on the ship Hammonia 16 May 1857: J. Störtenbecker, age 54, occupation joiner, Cath., age 44, wife, Gertrude, age 20, daughter, Fritz, age 16, son and Wilhelmine, age 13, daughter.
* 1870 Federal census records, Ward 1, Davenport, Scott County, IA -showing Juergen as a 68 year old "grocer" born in "Sleswick" and Cathrine, age 58, also born "Sleswick."
* 1870 Federal census records, Ward 1, Davenport, Scott County, IA -showing Hermann Bulsterbaum, a 37 year old baker born in Prussia and wife Elizabeth, age 34, born in "Sleswick."
* 1900 Federal census, 3rd Ward, Davenport, Scott County, IA, showing Elizabeth Bulsterbaum and son Gustav C, salesman born in Iowa September 1875 and daughter Hulda, born in Iowa June 1870
* Family tradition says Jürgen and maybe Catharina died in a cholera epidemic and were buried in a common mound (with other victims) in Davenport City Cemetery. Downer's HISTORY OF SCOTT COUNTY IOWA, Vol 1, 1910, mentions cholera outbreaks in the 1870s - with a particularly bad one in the fall of 1873. Focus section of the 16 September 1973 Time Democrat newspaper has an article about the City Cemetery and mentions the mound. Evidently, no records exist to confirm whether Jürgen or other family members were buried there.
* Burial of Theodor, Zion Congregational Cemetery, Honey Creek Twp., Treynor, Iowa.
