Documentation:
* William Irvine Henderson came to Rutherford Co NC from Va before 1800. He owned much land in the area and many many deeds are recorded for William Henderson in Rutherford Co. Based on census records he was born abt 1769 in Virginia. Also coming to Rutherford County at the same time was: an older William Henderson b in the 1750's,and James and John in the age range of William Irvine. Early family information suggests this older William Henderson was possibly William Michael Henderson, son of Thomas and Dorcan Henderson of Augusta Co Va, father of William Irvine. I have not been able to prove this with documented records. In 1810 Morgan District, there were 4 William Hendersons listed in the census for Rutherford Co NC, but they can be separated and grouped by the Hendersons they lived near. The older William and William Irvine are grouped together.
* Elizabeth "Betsey" Henderson, wife of William Irvine,as proved by records of Rutherford County, was a feisty thing that loved to gossip. According to Rutherford County NC court records she got into some trouble with her "wagging tongue". William had to meet with the offended party, James Smith, at the home of Major John Lewis. He agreed to pay James Smith 50 silver Spanish dollars or gold or silver of equal value as an out of court settlement if she did not apologize for her unfounded slanderous remarks. "She did "publickly" make acknow. required by the within award". April 11, 1801, April Ct. Rutherford Co NC page 117. Signed: John Lewis, Jeconias Waldrop. John Holland. Daniel Gardner, Alexander Carruth.
* On July 19, 1819 William Henderson enters 100 acres on White Oak Creek Middle Fork bordering Elijah Thompson and land where William Newman Jr. lives.
* Sept 6, 1831 page 142-143 William Thompson, son of Elijah Thompson, enters 50 acres on the waters of White Oak Creek that borders on the west side of William Henderson's old track and the east side of Henderson's new track. Twenty six acre tract on the south side included house and his own improvements/ (Wm Thompson was the son in law of William Irvine Henderson)
* July Court Rutherford Co NC 1834: Entry # 15 Irvine Henderson and Elizabeth Henderson acknowledged a deed to Andrew Eaves containing a lot in Rutherfordton 1 3/4 acres and 33 acres dated September 24, 1832 which with the certificate of the examination of Elizabeth were ordered to be recorded and registered.
* January 3, 1850 Deed Book #1 page 240, Rutherford Co NC Polk District Michael Henderson witness to deed from William Henderson to John Dentour ? 10 acres S. White Oak Creek.
* Rutherford Co NC land entries: William Henderson border John Lewis.
* William Henderson, Isaac Cloud enters 50 a. waters of White Oak Creek and South side of Musicks Mt.
* 1851 Rutherford Co Deed index Deed book 45, page 934: William Henderson grantor, Michael Henderson Grantee. It does not list anything else/(source: Bill Floyd transcribed index of Rutherford Co Deeds) He died in 1852, so possibly he was ill at the time.
* William Irvine Henderson wrote a will and left most of his estate to his son Michael H. Henderson, my gg grandfather. Will of William Henderson Dated June 17, 1851 Page 145 Recorded Spring Court 1853 Rutherford Co. The will is as follows: Page 145, 17 June 1851 Rutherford Co Will Book. Recorded Spring Court 1853.
I, William Henderson desire my funeral charges and just debts, if any shall be paid. I give unto my son Michael, the Negro Hannah and her two children Henry and George. I give unto Westley Edwards and his wife Sarah, the land on the mountain where he now lives. I give unto my sons William and David Henderson and my granddaughter Sarah and her husband Fenale Foster all the land which joins the land in which I deeded my son Michael to be divided between them. The balance to be divided amongst 7 of my children to wit: The heirs of James Henderson, the heirs of Rebecca Pack, the heirs of Joel Henderson, William Thompson and his wife Nancy, William Henderson, David Henderson, Toliver Smith and his wife Elizabeth, I appoint my son Michael Henderson and J.W. Hampton my executors.
Witness: Jesse Rhodes, Jurat N.B. Hampton.
Signed: William Henderson.
* This part of Rutherford later became Polk Co NC.
* William Thompson and wife Nancy Henderson Thompson had already migrated to Pickens Co Ga. when the will was written. They lived for some years in SC and Forsyth Co Ga before settling in Pickens.
* Also David Henderson and his family had migrated to Gilmer Co Ga, the county that joins Pickens.
