Summary: In August 1804, John Williamson Sr. deeded 350 acres on Curry Creek to son, John Williamson Jr. Along the north fork John Jr. ran a grist mill. In June 1821, John Sr. deeded three slaves to his son William; six to the children of son, Adam; and eight to the children of John Jr. - all conditional on the elder man's death. A rift had developed within the family over these matters, and the separation of the older couple. John Sr. moved briefly to Gwinnett Co., then c. 1826 to Butts Co. GA, to #250/8D., land won in the 1821 Lottery. Wife, Margaret (Peggy) Williamson remained in Jackson Co. with bachelor son, William. John Sr. died in Butts Co. in October 1831. John Williamson Jr. served as co- executor (with son, Nathan) inheriting the bulk of the estate, primarily livestock & slaves in Butts Co., and any remaining property in Jackson Co. Nathan C. Williamson received the Butts land (600 acres) through his grandfather's will. He had moved to Butts Co in late 1830, or early 1831. His father had given him a horse, bridle, saddle, and $300 cash; money, that Nathan and Lesley had earned on the 1830 cotton crop - saying, he would make up Lesley's share! In Jackson Co. John Jr prospered. By February 1849, he had over forty slaves, and had completed a "fine" new mill - saying, that his children would benefit from it. His supposed will slighted the older children, and was immediately contested by by sons-in-law; James B. Nabors (et al), Wm. D. Appleby, O.M. Lowry; and sons, Andrew J. and Jasper M. Willamson. After numerous delays, the will was set aside in Jackson County Superior Court-August 1853. An appeal to the GA Supreme Court failed. Dr. Crawford W. Long's testimony was among those cited by Justices in their summary. Administrators posted an $80,000 bond, a 2nd inventory was made, land and slaves were sold in Oct '54/Jan '55; but, still, it was carried to a Court of Equity in Jackson Co. Finally, after agreeing to arbitors, distributions were made in late 1857/early 1858!
