Robert ODOM is the oldest known member of our ODOM family. Nothing is known of his parents or siblings. Robert ODOM was Head of Household on the 1840 Census, Spadra Township, Johnson Co, AR. Robert 15-20 with 3 females, 1/10-15,1/15-20, presumably his sisters,1/50-60, a widow, probably his mother.
* The story of Zerelda Angeline SWIFT's family's move to AR from TN is told in the 1922 obituary of her brother William W 'Buck' SWIFT. The SWIFT's left Henry County, Tennessee, in 1837. They "came by river transportation from Memphis to old Spadra Bluff on the Arkansas river four miles south of Clarksville. After landing, they loaded their household goods on an ox wagon and started across Mulberry Mountain to the valley between this mountain and Boston Mountain, locating in the neighborhood of where Yale post office is now located."
* Family stories tell of a wagon train of several families who traveled from NC, through TN to Johnson Co, AR in the mid 1830's. The Joseph Stewart family joined that wagon train about 1935. Also along were said to be the CLOUGH's, SWIFT's, possibly ARBAUGH's, STEELE's and others. Research is ongoing to try to prove whether the ODOM's were also among those wagon train/waterway travelers.
* Robert and Zerelda Angeline ODOM raised 8 children in Johnson Co, AR. They are both buried at the Harmony Cemetery there. Many of their children's families settled in AR and OK.
* Despite much information on their children and descendants in many other families, we have yet to find the heritage of Robert ODOM. Any help is appreciated.
