His wife Barbara, was born about 1816 in Darmstadt, Germany. Jacob's name appears on land records when he purchased 40 acres of land in Germantown, Washington County, WI on May 27,1843. According to the obituary for their daughter, Catherine Rottman Quandt, the family moved to a farm in Kewaskum in 1867. In 1857 he sold the land in Germantown and moved to the town of Wayne, Wash. co. He was also listed as a trustee on a deed to purchase land for the German Methodist Episcopal Church in the town of Wayne in 1858. Jacob and Barbara were married at Christ Church in Germantown on Dec 18, 1844. Found Jacob and Barbara on the 1870 Fed. Census in Fond Du Lac county, town of Auburn, with children, Elizabeth, age 14, and "Polly" age 10. Jacob had real estate valued at $1200 and personal property of $600. There was a Mrs. "Rothman" listed as "widow" in the 1876 Fond Du Lac County directory. Seven people listed in the household.
