Documentation: 
Donald McPhale and John McPhale are in the Wisconsin
census in 1860 Ripon, Fond Du Lac Wisconsin(page 869)and (736). I have
found a history in Mcpherson Co.Kansas that reads that John (going by
McPhail) was in the 3rd Wisconsin Cavalry Co."C" as a Seargent for a full
term of duty then moved to Leavenworth Co.Kansas in 1865. HE remained
there until 1869 when he Moved to Saline County. He then moved to
Lindsborg, McPherson Co. Kansas and was an Attorney and a Newspaper
("Localist") owner and Editor. His brother Donald has a history article
that reads he cametothe United States in 1856 and Located near Fond du
Lac County, Wisconsin. He moved to the Kansas area in 1866.He was
educated in Scotland and a Steamboat Clerk. He steam boated and farmed
for a while in Wisconsin. He enlisted inthe US Navy in 1864. He was
promoted to Petty Officer.In 1865 was discharged for a disability. He
married Mary E. Fairchild on February 1866 in Rosendale, Fond Du Lac Co,
Wisconsin. Mary's dad was Highland Fairchild who also Lived in Wisconsin
prior to becoming President for a township Company and designing
Assaria, Saline Co. Kansas where they would all move and retire.They are
in all the in Kansas up to 1900 when they all are dead. John died in 1890
and Donald near that time frame. There were several of them that moved
there into the Saline Co.and McPherson Co.Kansas area that I believe may
be brothers. Donald, Duncan, George and John. George married Myra Freedly
and had great aunt Alice McPhail. He died and Donald's boy (also
George)married her and had children by her. Duncan married a Catherine
Jane Eaton 20 Aug 1876 in McPherson Co.Kansas. All this was gained from
Census info and from the Cutler's History of Kansas.
