Documentation:
1. Various Laughlin Family Members, Laughlin History, 1784 - 1918 (This was a revision of an earlier history compiled by three women - Miss Mary Ellen Laughlin, Mrs. Mary Laughlin Russell and Miss Nancy Margaret Laughlin. I think the revision was done by a Mrs. L. R. Johnston whose husband must have been descended from James and Elizabeth Laughlin Johnston. On page 15, she refers to herself as "your historian" and later refers to "our heroine Elizabeth Laughlin Johnston." (from Robert Howell - descendancy: Robert Laughlin/Mary Calhoun>David Laughlin/Mary Warren>David Ezra Laughlin/Mary Dinsmore>John James Laughlin/Mary Creighton>Mary Margaret Laughlin/John Milton Waters> Lola Mae Waters/Donald Johnston Howell>Robert Dale Howell, Sr./ Margaret Louise Craun)
The original information was compiled by three ladies:
1) Miss Mary Ellen Laughlin (18 June 1819-24 Jan 1897)
2) Mrs. Mary Laughlin Russell (25 May 1812-7 Jan 1889)
3) Miss Nancy Margaret Laughlin (7 Sept 1826-13 Apr 1913)
The author of this revised edition of the Laughlin History hereby dedicates it:First of all to the memory of Miss Mary Ellen Laughlin, Mrs. Mary Laughlin Russell, and Miss Nancy Margaret Laughlin, who gave the early history of the Laughlin family. And may the future generations of this sketch be as loyal to God and our Country as were the pioneers of this family.Robert Howell, 419 East Boyd Lane, Bedford, IN 47421).
