NOTES: After George's death,  Margaret took their 3 children to visit with
friends in border Virginia county. Visiting friendly Indians turned unfriendly,
killed our little Mary WARD with a tomahawk, killed the father and son of the
cabin, took the mother prisoneer. Margaret pushed David WARD and George WARD out
of a back window but not before Grandfather David WARD was wounded in the elbow
with a tomahawk. Margaret ran all night with the boys, crossing a body of water
several times to escape the chasing Indians. The mother who was taken captive
later escaped into the white community. Margaret WARD was of German extraction,
