After moving to Andrson County, Texas, "the Reverend James Madison McCarty is the first Primitive Baptist Minister known to have served in the area, serving Bethel Primitive Baptist Church of Christ." (Monument erected at Bethel Church and Cemetery, Andeson County, Texas) James Madison and Nancy Fike McCarty are buried in the Duffau Cemetery in Erath County, Texas. James McCarty and family are on the 1850 Anderson County, census and the 1860 Erath County Census.
