Thomas was living in Arkansas during the Civil War. Thomas, his father, and two brothers fought in the war. Henry and his father were killed. Thomas was in the United States Calvary. due to an accident cleaning his gun, Thomas served his last three months in the service working in the kitchen. Thomas lived near Cedar Glades in Garland Co, Arkansas when he met his future wife, Francis Rosalie Carter. she had moved from the state of Georgia with her family. Francis was the daughter of Jarm Carter and Mary Walker Carter. She had a brother, Samuel, and a sister Lucy. Thomas and Francis were married October 04, 1866, in Mount Ida, Montgomery Co, Arkansas. Thomas. Francis, Jasper and Thomas Hanby moved to Texas in a covered wagon pulled by oxen in approximately 1873. They settled in the "flat" at Andice, Texas. Tom worked on a ranch for Strayborne and Washington for $.50 per day. By 1877 three more children had been born to Thomas and Francis. Thomas and Francis owned a little house on the hill and some farm land in the valley. They farmed and raised cattle, A few miles to the west of the little house on the hill, the "Old Jackson Home Place" was built. Most of Texas born children were born in this house. Several of the sons and their families lived in the first little house on the hill. Thomas and Francis were saddened by the loss of two more children. Francis Carter Jackson died in her sleep in 1903, at the age of 55 years. she was survived by her husband, six sons, four daughters, tow daughter- in-law, three son-in-law, ten grandchildren, her sister, Lucy Morrison, and her brother, Samuel Carter. Thomas never saw his brother, William, after coming to Texas. He received a letter from him saying he was coming to Texas, but he never came and the family never heard from him. Tom went to Plainview, Arkansas after Francis died and saw his sister Mary Ann and her husband, Noah Phillips, Sr. and family. Thomas Jordan Jackson died in 1923 at the age of 77 years. He was survived by six sons and their wives, four daughters and their husbands, forty one grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, a sister, Mary Ann Phillips, three half brothers, and one half sister. At the time of his death, Thomas owned two farms and three rent houses in Liberty Hill.
