Catherine Susan HOUSTON MCCLATCHY's application to the Guion Miller
Commission
Walter P. MCCLATCHEY (grandson of Catherine)
Catherine claimed to be a great niece of General Sam HOUSTON but I have
not found the connection if it exists. She also claimed to be Cherokee by
blood and made application to the Guion Miller roll. Most family
information comes from her application. According to Walter, who
remembers being at her home when he was little, she spoke a little of the
Cherokee language. Descendants also claim that her husband was part
Cherokee by blood as well, however, neither he nor any of his relatives
made a claim.
Kansas/Candis UNKNOWN MCCLATCHEY BARKER TYSON was the mother of Aaron
Franklin MCCLATCHY who married Mollie HOUSTON. She was also the mother of
Allen BARKER who married Charlotte HOUSTON. They were cousins of James
David MCCLATCHY Sr who married Catherine.
