* Dee Phillips Research

Notes:
* Samuel William Tate and his wife Martha Means along with a contingent of family, neighbors and friends traveled by wagon from Overton, TN to Nacogdoches, TX in 1847.
   In the group was Samuel's father, Alfred Carter Tate and his second wife, Mirena Gentry and their children. Alfred did not accompany Samuel to Llano County where he made his home by 1854 and was elected first County Clerk of the newly formed county in 1856.
   Samuel operated a trading post, general store and post office from his home in Sandy Mt. TX. He and Martha raised twelve children to adulthood there.
   Sandy Mountain had a church, school, cemetery and the Tate store and post office. All that remains today is the cemetery which is located in the city of Sunrise Beach, TX. All that remains of the old Tate home is the ruins of one old chimney at the intersection of RR2233 and 2900.
* The Tate home fell into the hands of Lady Bird Johnson and she had the structure dismantled and reconstructed on the Jordan-Bachman Pioneer Farm in Travis Co. TX. where it stands today and is called the TATE HOUSE.
* Samuel W. Tate and Martha Means and some of their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other descendants are buried in the Sandy Mountain Cemetery sunrise Beach, Llano, TX.
