* Also in passing you should know wife #3 did not live long after Leonard died as she had no means of support and suffered malnutrition, her parents and relations were dead, we do know that 2 of the sons, Oscar and Jake, met up at a recruiting station and were united joyfully as long lost brothers, unknown for sure. As you can tell Leonard abandoned several children and 2 wives in his lifetime. Bertie stated devotion and love for Leonard to her dying day. Why I can't tell you. It was such a sad story when told by my mother Ethel. He deserted them on a dirt farm in Johnson Co Texas in 1910 and Roger was a newborn baby. Leonard put on his famous white linen suit and walked away leaving Bertie in tears. My mother listened at night as Bertie cried for him. He married wife #3 within a year.
