IN Census, 1846 Houston Co.TX Poll Tax,1850Houston Co. Census, 1860 Houston Co. Census, Scant records from Houston Co. Courthouse, Crockett,History of Montgomery Co. KS, his Grandson Benjamin Murphy wrote this account about his Father, Jesse and his Grandfather James Murphy. It is thought they settled in Ash Community, Houston Co. TX. In thisarticle it says that James' first wife died in Posey Co. IN. It says James went to Republic of Texas, but so far have only picked him up on the 1846 Poll Tax list. I dont see him before this time in Houston Co.as having come to the Territory of Texas in Houston County. It is safe to say he went to Texas between 1840-45. Notes: History of Montgomery KS says, James Murphy died as early as 1861, about the time the Civil War broke out, scantcourthouse records make reference to him and his burned will to have been probated in 1866.It also says he fought in the War of 1812 in the Battle of Tippecanoe under Gen. Harrison.
