He farmed in Tennessee and Texas. He is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Corsicana, Navarro County, Texas. Joseph Arthur's wife, Ellen or "Nassie" was born at the time of the First Battle of Manasses or Bull Run. I am personally grateful that her parents used the Southern method of naming battles, which was the name of the nearest town. Federal troops named battles of the Civil War by the closest body of water, in this case, the creek of Bull Run. There is a portrait of her reading her Bible. She is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Corsicana, Navarro County, Texas. About their children: Nona was a wonderful cook and entered her cakes in the State Fair. One year she won a stove/oven for her efforts. She enjoyed taking trips to Dallas to shop. One summer she took two of her granddaughters to Dallas to see the film version of "Oklahoma" on one of the three widescreened theaters in the state. She could sew, tat lace, quilt, can fruits and vegetables, make jam and jellies and garden. She and her husband Hugh were active in the First Baptist Church in Corsicana. Lucy lived outside of town on a farm which included a huge garden, an orchard, and dairy. She had a reputation for being fiercely protective of her garden to the extent of shooting neighbors' hogs that uprooted her vegetables. She also was willing to share time with her "city-fied" nieces and nephews, explaining farming chores as she worked. Sue was the true Southern lady who served tea to adults and children and was always "hat box perfect" in her dress. Exie had scarlet fever as a child and never fully recovered from the high fever's damage.
