* Goodspeed's History of Pope County, Arkansas article on Charles L. Bowden, son of John S. Bowden. According to this article, the family was in Marion County, Arkansas by 1840 and moved to Pope County, Arkansas in 1842.
* I have a copy of the will of William Reynolds from Lawrence County, Tennessee. John S. Bowden is listed as his son-in-law and was one of three executors for this will. William's wife Candice was another and the third was his son, William Reynolds.
* John S. Bowden served Pope County as a representative to the legislature on three occasions: 1852-53; 1856-57; and during the time Arkansas seceded from the union March 1860 to March 1862.
* There is a Bible record for this family given to Reva Housley of Atkins, Arkansas by T. L. Bowden of Hutsville, Alabama, a great great grandson. Reva gave me a copy of it. It is very poor quality, but between the Bible record and the tombstones in Pope County, we were able to complete many of the dates for this family.

* James H. Bowden's marriage to Mary Louisa Ashmore was never recorded in the marriage books at the county courthouse. It was found in loose papers in the vault and was a handwritten record turned in to the county clerk by the person who performed the marriage.
