from Ethel Burchfield Teffeteller, her grandfather J. P. Burchfield died
6 Apr 1872, killed by "a bunch of raiders led by Old Man Wilkinson at the
close of the war" - she also stated that "he came home frequently to
check on his family during the war". According to the Civil War Pension
File for Mary Gardiner Burchfield, J. P. Burchfield was presumed killed
in action at the Battle of Shiloh and the last 3 children were
illegitimate and one was stated as being negro.  .
