about the lst day Oct. 1859 leaving a large amount of property in the
county of Panola to wit..about fifteen hundred dollars in notesa upon

The State of Texas              County Court Feb. Term 1861
Panola County
And now comes at this term of the court James Trner a citizen of
Harrison County and shows to this court that O. Knox was appointed
administrator on estate of E Bateman at the Nov 1860 term of this
court and was ordered to give bond and qualify as requested by law and
this petition shows that said Knox failed to give bond and qualify as
the law directs and still fails to do so.  Whereupon this petitioner
prays that said Knox be dismissed from the administration of this
estate and that this petitioner be appointed in his stead and be
permitted to qualify as administrator of this estata of th law directs

The State of Texas              County Court Pertaining to Estates of
Panola County Deceased Persons  February Term AD 1867  To the
Honorable Henderson Fyke County Judge of said county Your petitioner
James Turner administrator of William Bateman Deceased with respect
shows to the court that it is necessary to compound the debt which he
holds against the estate of J.H. Bateman Deceased for the reason that
the results of the war has so reduced the assets of the estate of J.H.
Bateman that the same will not be able to pay any portion of its
indebtedness, and petitioner would note that if permitted to
compromize said case with the administration he will be able to
realize something for the estate he represents otherwise perhaps he
will get nothing.
