Documentation:  BIOGRAPHY OF ANDREW D. BATEMAN

Andrew D. Bateman was born ca 1807 in Williamson Co., TN.  He married
Nancy L. Holt March 12, 1827 in Williamson Co., TN.  They had 5 known
children when they came to the area known at that time as the Free
State of Coahuila and Texas.  They apparently settled in the
municipality of San Augustine in the county of Sabine according to
"Residents of Texas 1782-1836" by The University of Texas Institute of
Texan Cultures.  On this census it shows His occupation as farmer and
no religious preference but his wife was shown as Baptist.

He received a league of land from the Mexican government on his
arrival per records in the Spanish Collection, Box 58 Folder 45 at the
General Land Office of Texas.  The patent was issued 12 October 1835.
He sold this to John W. Holman.  The deed of sale being dated 18
Feburary 1837.  He purchased one-third of a league of land from David
Renfro in San Augustine Co.; the deed of sale dating 13 March 1835.
On 11 March 1836 he sold this tract of land to Burwell J. Thompson.
On 31 January 1839 he received a labor of land from the Republic of
Texas for being in Texas in 1835 and as a head of family.  He sold
this tract 15 April 1839.

He is listed on the "Muster Rolls of The Texas Revolution" published
by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas as being in the
Militia-Northeast Beat.  This being from San Augustine Co.

He and his family are listed on the Calcasieu Parish, LA federal
census for 1840.  He died before November 1845 per probate papers
filed in St. Landry Parish, LA.  His widow Nancy is on the 1850 Panola
Co., TX federal census with six of her seven children.  Her oldest
child, Melinda, married 13 June 1846 in St. Landry Parish, LA to John
Richards.

(This was submitted to First Families of Texas, Daughters of the
Republic of Texas and Sons of the Republic of Texas with applications
for membership).
