DAR letter, Service pay records of original rolls of the 11th VA regiment under Capt Charles Porterfield, records at the VA State Library. Also pension records for John in Chester County, PA where he collected his pension til 1835 when he died. Also credit to Alfred QUAINTANCE for all the research he did on the QUAINTANCES in America, but I do not have any of his sources. Notes: There is a John QUAINTANCE buried aside of Mary Shields @ Hepsibah Baptist Church cemetery in Chester county. The stone marker says "John QUAINTANCE veteran of the War of 1812". I believe this may be a son of Mary and John, but I don't have the proof. John remarried, he may have been buried aside of his second wife. His second family will be on a separate family sheet. John QUAINTANCE the elder was a Revolutionary War Soldier. He was with George Washington when he camped at Valley Forge. Documentation proves that he was the correct John QUAINTANCE, but the DAR has the wrong JOHN. They have a son of John's brother William as being the REV soldier, but he would have been too young for that war. Apparently there was a mixup because of John also having a father named William, but this was the wrong generation. So please anyone doing any research on this man, let's try to give credit where it is due...to the right person who suffered during that long hard winter. Please do not send an email to the FGS-Form@FGS-Project.com email address, as it will not be answered.
