  * Grant Dick, the Freedom township lumberman who was accidentally shot by a hunting companion late in the night of Oct. 14, died at the Nason hospital at Roaring Spring at 8.30 last evening. Death was due to blood poisoning and was hastened by weakness which resulted rom the loss of blood.
  * Dick lives near the town of East Freedom and is employed in the woods as a lumberman. The day before the opening of hunting season Dick with a number of companions went to Woodcock valley in Bedford county, some distance from Saxton. The members of the hunting party had gone into camp with the intention of beginning a week's hunt the following morning.
  * It is said that about 10 o'clock at night one of the members of the party, an Altoona man, secured a shot gun and discharged the weapon several times with the intention of awakening several of the men who had gone to sleep. In discharging the gun, the contents of a shell struck Dick on the right leg just below the knee. The load of find bird- shot shattered the upper portion of the bones of the lower leg and also injured the knee joint.
  * The large artery leading to the foot was severed and although the other members of the party made an effort to stay the flow of blood they could do little to help the injured man. Being far in the woods, no medical assistance could be secured any more that night and it was not until the next day that Dick was brought to the Nason hospital. Although a hardy lumberman, the man had lost so much blood that his condition was regarded as serious from the start, but he lingered until last evening.
  * It was reported that several members of the hunting party were under the influence of liquor on the night of the accident, and while the mishap was accidental, some one was guilty of carelessness. Coroner W.T.
  * Blackburn of this city expects to make an investigation.
  * The dead man was the son of Daniel and Susan Dick and was born in Taylor township, near Roaring Spring, in 1868. He was united in marriage to Nancy Feathers in 1897. His wife, two daughters, Edith and Martha, his parents and the following brothers and sisters survive: Ezra of Chester county, Frank of East Freedom, James of Roaring Spring, Rena Dick at the home of her parents in Taylor township, Mrs. Hattie Adams of Roaring Spring and Mrs. Ella Ellis of Chester county. The funeral will be held Wednesday with brief services at his late home at 8.30 in the forenoon. Following this service will be held in the Albright church in Roaring Spring and interment will be made in the cemetery adjoining.
