[9] Porterville Record (Porterville, Tulare County, California), Wednesday, 31 Mar 1954. Boy, 9, Becomes County's 16th Traffic Fatality: Nine year old Alvin CARR of Farmersville became Tulare County's 16th traffic fatality of the year at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday when he was struck by an automobile while on his way home from school. Investigating officers of the California Highway Patrol said the boy was killed when struck broadside by a westbound sedan driven by Mrs. Valeria T. SCOTT, 55, of Visalia. The accident occurred on County Road 36E near the east edge of Farmersville. Mrs. SCOTT told officers that a group of children were walking along the road, and that the CARR boy suddenly ran in front of her vehicle. He was struck broadside. The boy was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clive [Cleve] CARR, who reside in a trailer court in Farmersville. [10] Tulare Advance-Register and Tulare Times (Tulare, Tulare County, California), Wednesday, 31 Mar 1954, Volume 72, Number 86. Child Hit And Killed: Mr. and Mrs. Cleve CARR, Farmersville, lost their only child, Alvin, yesterday afternoon in a traffic accident on a county road on the southeast edge of Farmersville. The 9-year-old boy was struck and fatally injured by a car while he was playing with a group of children returning from classes at the East Farmersville school. He was dead on arrival at Exeter Memorial hospital. The body was taken to Hadley's funeral chapel in Visalia. Mrs. Valerie [Valeria] SCOTT, 55, Visalia, told highway patrolmen the boy darted in front of her car near a bridge that crosses a large irrigation canal. She estimated her speed at 15 miles per hour. Her car's right fender hit the boy a glancing blow and tossed him to the north side of the road. Deputy Sheriff Ray BURNING, first office at the scene, said the CARR boy was among a group of children who were running up the irrigation ditch banks and across the main east-west thoroughfare on which the accident occurred. The boy lived with his parents in a trailer house in Farmersville. His mother is an invalid. Mrs. SCOTT was not held. No citation was issued. The accident was the 23rd county traffic fatality for 1954. At this time last year 15 persons had been killed on county roads. In 1951, the county's worst year for traffic deaths, 28 persons had been killed to this date. [10] BURIAL: Alvin Wallace CARR is buried in the Exeter Cemetery, North of Exeter, Tulare County, California. [11] NOTE: John Wallace CARR, father of Cleveland W.W. CARR, married Mrs. Lillie Anna (JONES) COOPER, mother of Hila COOPER, sometime after 23 Apr 1930 in Oklahoma (See [2] above).
