NOTES: John TILLMAN, father of Tobias, played a major role in early Colonial North Carolina affairs. In reading Mrs. Inglis Fletcher's book, "The Wind in the Forest" (1957), TILLMAN / TILGHMAN researchers believe that the character Hillary CASWELL represents a blend of John and his son Tobias; John being the Secretary to the Governor of Colonial North Carolina.
