William H. West was born in Steubenville, Jefferson County, Ohio. Rachel
Crawford was native to Penn. IN the fall of 1861, William West enlisted
in Ohio Company G, 43rd Infantry. Re-enlisted in 1863. Was involved in
the battles of Shiloh, Pittsburg Landing, and Cornith. Was with Sherman
on the march to the sea. Wounded 3 times. Came to MO in 1862, but settled
there after the War in 1868 in Cass Co, MO. Married Amanda Reynolds in
1866, she died in 1896. They had 11 children together. Amanda West died
and was buried in Strasburg Cemetery. Willaim
Harrison West and wife Amanda appear together in the 1870 and 1880 Census
of Cass Co, Polk Township, Missouri.
