Documentation: David Pricer enlisted with 1st Lt. --- Le downs, Company
46 of the 15th Regiment of the United States, was enlisted by Capt. E.
Day at Bainbridge, Ohio on the 11th day of August 1862, to serve 3 years.
His occupation was listed as farmer. Discharged 10th day of November 1864
at Chicago, listed 1/2 disability due to Tuberculosis of the right lung,
and diarrhea contracted in the service. Was unable to perform duty in
the Veteran Reserve Corps.
Certificate of Disability for Discharge.
David Pricer made the following statement.
During transfer from West Virginia to Nashville about the middle of
February 1863 while on the steamboat about six weeks later scurvy set in
my left leg and I was taken to field hospital at Murfresboro, Tennessee.
Each date I do not remember about July 1, 1863. I was transferred from
said hospital to Veteran Reserve Corps, but never was able to do duty
after going to above named hospital.
Personal description of David was 5 feet 11 inches tall, complexion fair,
hair light, eyes blue.
Declaration for original invalid pension dated 21 day of June 1880, Reno
County, Kansas
David was transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps.

David Pricer No 257.157, Private Co. H 89 Vol. infantry. Vols on this
24th day of November 1890. Sanford Caldwell was 55 years old a resident
of Soda in the county of Reno, state of Kansas. Post Office address
Sego, Kansas. He had known David for 14 years. David had told him he
was in the same boat with thousands of the old soldiers that is a suffer
en from chronic diarrhea. David was often unable to perform any manual
labor as he was troubled with scurvy and he was unable to use his hands.
Widow's Declaration for Pension or Increase of Pension (Pension)
State of Kansas, County of Reno on the 17th Day of August 1891. Malinda
was 65 years old. Chronic diarrhea contracted while in Civil War was the
cause of David's death.
In the packet of Civil War information their is a copy of marriage
certification, General Affidavit from a physician that cared for David 26
years and was caring or him at the time of his death. Copy of a
statement made by a student doctor that had cared for David before he
entered the service, stating David was free of diarrhea and scurvy at
that time. Student doctor later became a physician and wrote the letter
as a physician.

The following information was provided by Alma Hopkins in a letter to
Donna Barnes Clark, April 1968.
Alma was born on a farm between Pretty Prairie and Kingman, Kansas. While
she was still a baby they moved to Hutchinson and from there to Topeka
and then to Colorado. The first stop in Colorado was a ranch at Las
Animas and she states they were there three years. They then moved to
Manzanola where she completed high school in 1908. They then moved to
Rocky Ford. John was the manager of a canning factory for a couple
years. They moved to Boone in 1910 and Alma was married that year. John
and his wife later moved back to Manzanola.

Notes for David Simon Simmons:
David was killed by a team of run away horses. David was thrown into the
road drag from behind, throwing him forward in the double trees of his
own team and he was dragged 100 yards.
David and his family of six sons moved to Dodge City from Hutchinson in
1903. He lived in Dodge except for about 5 years when he homesteaded in
Logan County.
