Notes:
(1)Thomas had a brother named David who is also buried at Asbury Cemetery,
Carthage Twp, Athens Co, OH not far from Thomas’ grave. Date of death taken from
tombstone is: 3 Jan 1872, aged 73 y, 3 m, 19 d. Searches of Federal Census
records, marriage records, etc. has failed to locate any records for David
beyond his grave. It is unknown whether he ever married or had children. There
is a Nickoson family in Kentucky with a David who is frequently confused with
David (4th child of Thomas Robert), however the David Nickoson from Kentucky is
neither of the two; David (son of Thomas Robert) or David (brother of Thomas
Robert).
(2)Various permutations of the name spelling include: Nicholson, Nickerson,
Nichoson, Nickeson, Nickison, Nikson, Nickinson, Nickason, etc.
(3)Marriage record transcription for Elizabeth and Thomas Robinson shows the
maiden name as HOSS. However, census records prior to marriage show the name as
HOST. Given that the HOSS/HOST family are of German descent it is believed that
the correct form of the name is HAAS, thus the interpretation for the marriage
record as HOSS.
(4)Burial location taken from death certificates. When no record exists, burial
is presumptive based on residency in Carthage Township, Athens Co., OH. Despite
the many burials of the Nickoson family in Asbury Cemetery many of the graves
are unmarked. Submitter has photographed the tombstones that are extant for this
family.
