On 15 November, 1871, George Haven Downs applied for a War of 1812
pension in Cooper Co., Missouri. Said application was sworn to before
Thomas J. Starke, Clerk of the Cooper County Court of common Pleas and
witnessed by Thomas V. Ellis and Issac M. Downs (Issac M. was George's
grandson). He states that he is not married and that had he married Olive
Pingry on 13 April, 1817 (evidently Olive was already dead ). He further
states that he was drafted at Sandwich, New Hampshire and served sixty
days as a musician (fifer) in Captain Courson's Company, New Hampshire
Militia.
