was born October 21, 1855, in Eggedal,
Norway.
He came to Lake Mills, Iowa with his
parents, Per and Kari Nyhus, one
brother Ellef and two sisters Gjertrud
and Ingeborg. Erick came here in
1874 and homesteaded in Enger Township.
Erick Nyhus was married
July 28, 1878, to Anna Fecher. She was born
in Norway in 1852. To this marriage
five children were born. They are:
Peter, Karine, Olava, Andrine, and Edward.
His second marriage
took place June 22, 1888, to Bertha Stoa. they
had 10 children.
Mr. and Mrs. Nyhus
lived on the homestead until the spring of 1917,
when they moved to Hatton. A son,
Edward, has been on the farm since
they moved to town.
Their children were:
Selma, Alice, Clara, Anne, Christine, Alvin,
Oliver, Theodore, Bert, and Lauritz."

and died in France in September 27,
1918. Kristine born January 15,
1892 and died in 1915. Elise (Nelson)
born August 6, 1893. Elvin
born March 26, 1895 and died October 24,
1918. Theodore born November
21, 1896. Bert born January 5, 1899.
Klara (Osland) born July 25, 1901.
Selma born June 14, 1903. Lauritz
born September 5, 1905.
"Erick lived on his
farm until 1917 when they moved to Hatton. Mr.
Nyhus was the church "klokker" for forty
years and served as Sunday
School Superintendent for many years.
Mrs. Nyhus passed away
december
28, 1920, and Mr. Nyhus died September
16, 1935.
"Edward now resides
on the home farm."

1. Family History: is strange, 1872.
Bertha Stoa was born in 1861.
Her father married Ingeborg Holte Stoa
in 1866. They came to America
in
1871. Bertha Stoa immigrated to
America in 1885.
Apparently Bertha Stoa Nyhus
was not raised by her father, but she
was
in contact with some of the Stoas.
Berthold, her uncle, visited the
Nyhus home in North Dakota when he was
there visiting his brother,
Elling, who lived near Buxton, ND.
Berthold returned to his
Moscow Township, Freeborn County, MN,
home
with a picture of Bertha and Erick and
the 15 children. Also, a picture
of Bertha's grandparents, John T. and
Bertha Stoa were among th old
family pictures of the Eric Nyhus family.
Bertha's cousins Emma Stoa
Lunde and Cora Stoa live in Moscow
township
and Cora supplied the information to
link the family trees. Cora
remembered that her grandparents were
concerned about their
grandchild,
Bertha, but Knut's faamily did not know
about her.
