Documentation:
William immigrated with his father and brothers about
1759 to Charleston, SC.  William worked for four years as a deckhand to
pay off his father's debt for the passage to America.  On the return
trips to Wales, William would stay with his Uncle David, who lived in
Heresfordshire.  After about three years William convinced his Uncle
David to come to America, and he settled in Old Mecklenburg Co. (now
Cabarrus Co., NC).  About a year later when William finally had worked
out the debt of his father he returned briefly to SC.  Not liking the
treatment of being compelled to work four years as a deckhand, he left
for NC to live with his uncle David.  This would have been about 1764.
William enlisted in the 1st Batallion of the NC Militia on July 4, 1776.
He reenlisted in 1779.  He fought with Gen. George C. Marion the "Swamp
Fox", and also with Generals Gates and Green.  He was captured by the
British at the battle of Camden, but escaped.  He was in the battles of
King Mountain, Cowpens, and Chowan.  He was given two land grants near
Big Coldwater Creek in NC.
William Townsend, an old wilderness mate of William Voiles, located close
to the first Voiles families near Organ Spring.  Hannah Voiles must have
married his son, also, Moses married a daughter of William Townsend.
Later, Moses and Hannah moved to Martinsville, Morgan Co.
The Voiles family had traveled the old Daniel Boone Trace, over the
Cumberland Mountains, through the Cumberland Gap to reach their Indiana
destinations.

Barbara Drucilla Johnson, a daughter of William's son, David, told many
stories of the frontier and how they were in constant danger from
Indians.
Their log house was so constructed that they could shoot from above.  She
relates how the Indians came and drove off their cattle.  William and the
older boys went in search of them.  They were gone 2 or 3 days and those
left at home included her father, (Old Dave).  He was one of the younger
children.  They were in constant terror, especially at night.  Indians
came one time and surrounded the house.  They hurried and boarded up the
windows.
Eight of William's family came to Indiana Territory.  Two children,
Joseph and Andrew, died young in NC. Six of these remained in Washington
Co.  Two others, Moses and Hannah Voyles Townsend moved to Morgan Co.,
IN. where they lived and died.
William Voils died about 1804 in Cabarrus Co., NC (which was no longer a
frontier) and was buried in the family burial ground on the old farm,
which is easily located from county records.
William and Hannah's older children went to KY, and later to Indiana
Territory.  The younger children remained on the farm with their mother,
where they worked very hard farming and raising cattle. Their cattle was
loaded on flat boats and shipped down the Yadkin River to market, a
distance of 300 miles.  The mother, Hannah Bundi Voils died from a wasp
sting in the ear.  After her death, the younger children applied to the
courts for a settlement.  The old farm was sold and they traveled to KY.
Rolin, Rachel and David came in one group, driving through in a Conestago
wagon.  They left NC in 1812, and it took about 2 months to make the
trip.  They told of cutting trees and fastening them on their wagons to
keep it from turning over while coming down the mountains.
The trip from Mercer Co., KY is presumed to be much the same route
followed by others.  They traveled to Louisville (the Falls) where they
were ferried over the Ohio River on a raft.  Roadways this side of the
river at that early date were few.  In fact, the main one then was the
"Buffalo Trace" which was almost a direct route from the Falls to
Vincennes.  This route came within less than a mile of the southwest
corner of Washington Co. and only 2 plus miles at Blue River Crossing.
It is very probable they came up Blue River to where they settled in the
area of now Organ Springs.  It seems that down in Kentucky there was a
disagreement, and this caused David to come on to Indiana Territory.
Rolin and Rachel came on to the next spring.  Their differences
apparently were settled, because they settled on adjoining land.
(FOUND ON GENFORUM)
A while back I posted to the Voyles list about what I found on CD 5 about
what I found on it that they had Moses Voyles as the son of John Cripps
Sr. Vowells. I was wondering where the Dates of William and Hannah Bundy

I was going through my packed boxes on some of the Voyles/Voiles family.
I now know where they came from.

(Believe this proves that William died prior to the 1800 census?)
It has been reported in family history that Hannah died about 1807 from a
black wasp sting in the head.  She was pulling bark from a dead tree to
kindle the fire under her blue dye coloring pot.
Info sent ot Hershel Voyles-no name of the writer-: "I have made 3 trips
to Concord, NC searching for William and Hannah Voils graves.  I have
been unable to locate them.  They were buried on the farm where they
lived.  One of his land grants is near the Coldwater Baptist Church.
According to the church history the Voils were early members and no doubt
William was one of them.  I have contacted the church, which has a
cemetery near by for permission to place a marker in memory of William.
They have accepted and hope that this can be done soon."
This is the 1880 census, gives Hannah's birthplace as Italy.

David Voyles (mar Barbara Udy)was the 7th child of William & Hannah Bundy
Voils. From the Salem Democrat - Dec 2, 1876, in a story about the older
citizens of Salem, IN, David said he was of "imported stock". His father
was a Welshman, and a native of Wales, and his mother was an Italian, and
that the peculiar traits of both nations could yet be seen, more or less,
in their descendants.
Several researchers has failed to find any information about Hannah Bundy
Voils.
