Documentation:
(Info received from Deborah Y. Chatham, 9300 S. Redwood
Rd. #7-13, West Jordan, UT  84044.)
Pay voucher issued to Thomas Voyles for service rendered as a militia
member in the Revolutionary War.
The voucher reads as follows:
"State of North Carolina, Salisbury Dist. No. 1514 agreeable to an act of
the general assembly paper in Wake Co. the 14th July 1781 Thomas Voyles
was allowed 3 pounds 3 shillings specci for Militia Service by the board
of auditors Aug. 28, 1782 by order:
David Wilson
Will Carthey
Kinsey Trotter C.B."
The voucher when converted to silver by the Militia member was made of no
further value by a paper punch, a small circle visible above the "D" in
signer D. Wilson's signature is the hole. It must be remembered the
Militia was a rag tag assemblage of revolutionaries, and largely without
uniforms, paid in the Kings' coin of the realm, and serving in a hit or
miss fashion, dividing of their time between fighting, and family
requirements.  And the American Revolution lasted from 1775 to 1783.
