Documentation:
Family notes hand-written by Soirle, at Sarthill, his
plantation in Anson Co., NC, signed and dated 12 May 1777.
(Original
now in Scotland, copy held by Fiona M Lundy.) He was at
the Battle of
widow Moore's Ck. Bridge and evaded capture after the Loyalists loss,
made his way north to rejoin the British in the British Legion as an
Ensign in Capt. Patrick Stewart's troop. Claimed compensation
for
losses from Shelbourne, NS, but did not stay there; he was back in
Scotland before 1800 and had 2 further families. His obituary
was
printed in the Times newpaper, London, England as well as the Inverness
and Aberdeen newspapers in Scotland.
