Documentation:
* Mary is listed as a widow in the 1880 Anson County, NC; Gulledge Dist. Her household includes six of her children plus two granddaughters, Sallie LEAR, age 1; Mary C LEAR, age 2 and Betsey LEAR, S Dau, age 38. Next door is another son, Hainey LEAR who is married to Margaret, age 24. Have not been able to uncover any sign of this family in Anson County prior to this 1880 census.
* The interesting thing about this family is that the naming pattern is very closely aligned to that of the Henry HAYNIE, Sr. family which includes Henry, Harvey and Martha, not to mention the married son, Hainey LEAR and the granddaughter Sallie, like Henry, Sr.'s wife. Widow Mary was born about 1825 and there is a spot in Henry, Sr.'s family for a daughter of that age. Who was Mary's husband? Did she leave Anson when she got married and return after she was widowed? The two grandchildren Sallie age 1 and Mary C age 2 probably belong to Henry and Martha.
