* James C. BARRS moved from The Nankin District of Brooks County Georgia to south Suwannee County Florida and started a General Store in Columbia County and established BARRSVILLE Florida in 1871. In 1872 there was a shooting in front of James Barrs' General Store. He was hit by shotgun pellets and his cousin Jno Barrs from South Carolina was hit several time and died two days later of a pistol shot to the side that had gone unnotices. The trial took place in Lake City Florida in Columbia County in 1887, however James Barrs had passed away by then. He is last known to have been alive in 1880 at the time of the 1880 Sueannee County Florida Federal Census. Isaac Newton Barrs, James C. Barrs' son moved from Brooks County Georgia to Day Ladayette County Florida and built a large general store there in 1904. He also owned the Day House, a pioneer hotel to support the Day Cotton Gin. He also owned considerable land around Day FL and built at leat three large homes there.
