He names the above as his surviving heirs. The Gooch men can be traced through the records of Southside Virginia to Caroline County. Joseph Gooch is named in the Partridge Store Ledger as paying the account of his father John in the 1750s. Gideon Gooch and James Terry are also named in records relating to Caroline Co. and John Gooch. John's grandson, Stephen Terry, left detailed records connected to his Revolutionary War Pension stating that his parents married in Hanover County. Marriage records are from numerious sources. Newspapers relating to the estate of Carr McGeehee indicate Gideon Gooch married Mary McGeehee. Records of Edward Thweat in Southside Virginia establish Rowland as his son-in-law. Marriage bonds in Amelia establish the marriages of John and William. Joseph Gooch's birthdate come from family traditions; his death comes from records relating to his probate. He married two more times, but did not have issues by these wives; his first wife Rachel is named in deeds releasing her dower share on property establishing her as the mother of his three known children Daniel, Amos, and William.
