Most of the dates from this Bible are corroborated by tombstone, family letters, and obituaries with some exceptions as follows: Daniel Gooch's tombstone does not give the date of his death, though the Bible does. The tombstone is a replacement from an older one probably dating from the 1890s. Samuel Gooch's death is given by the Bible as 1839 a biography of the family in MS states 1837. Joseph Gooch's family Bible provides a slightly different date than his tombstone, the Bible date is given here. William's obituary places his death on the 3rd rather than the 30th. Nancy's death date is shown as 1869 on her tombstone; however, her estate paper places it as 1849. The Bible can be corroborated for the death dates of Dudley, Jane, and Thomas from other sources indicating it is a fairly reliable source. Many of these people are buried at the Gooch family graveyard, in Granville Co. The yard has been surveyed and is on rootsweb, it is located near the present day Enon Church. Marriages are mostly from marriage bonds found in Granville confirmed by family history and probate. Dudley Snead married twice. Amos and Thomas are recalled as never having married however there are marriage bonds in Granville and Tallahatchie for both men. If the marriages were ever carried out, they did not last long and produced no heirs. There is indication that Thomas had issue from an enslaved woman, but the details are not clear.
