Notes:
* Opal was born and raised on the Crenshaw ranch near White Oaks and went to school in Carrizozo, NM. She was a regular entry at any rodeo or parade. She first attended college at Oklahoma State and then at Eastern New Mexico University at Portales where she was on the rodeo team and won the steer riding event in one of the first college rodeos.
She met Wes Mills at the University of New Mexico where he was studying Engineering and she worked for the Dean of Engineering. They both graduated from the University of New Mexico. Opal received a double major in Business and Education. Wes was in the Naval ROTC at UNM and served as a Lieutenant JG in the Pacific during WWII.
After the War Wes finished his degree and he and Opal began a life in the oil fields. Wes was employed or owned businesses in the oil field for 40 years. His work took them to West Texas, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Venezuela, and Saudi Arabia. Wes worked for the Atomic Energy Commission in 1967-69 in Las Vegas, Nev and Amchitka, Alaska where he was the site manager for drilling the holes used for underground detenation of bombs. The family lived in Bellevue, Washington during this period. He was also employed by the South African Government as a consultant from 1969 to 1971. Wes, Opal and a son and a daughter moved to Pretoria, South Africa. After this job, Wes went to work for ARAMCO and he and Opal and their youngest son lived in Abqaiq, Saudi Arabia for 10 years. Opal was the school librarian in the ARAMCO school. Wes and Opal retired in the early 80s and returned to the States to their newly built home in Ruidoso, NM and Opal's part of the original Crenshaw ranch. They built a new barn and brought in a new house, electricity and phone service to the ranch. They made many improvements and were raising Arabian horses when Wes died suddenly in 1988. Opal lived on the ranch and in Las Cruces for several years. Then moved to El Paso with her son who cared for her until her death. The family still owns Opal's and Wes portion of the Crenshaw ranch.
