Documentation:
* Charles immigrated to the United States from Germany probably about 1880. He married
about 1882 to Amelia Schertz, and about 1886 they moved to Sierra County New Mexico with
their oldest child Charles who had been born in Texas. Their other children were born in
New Mexico.
* Hillsboro really grew after gold was discovered in the area in 1877, although from
1844 to 1938 it was the county seat. Charles worked in the mines in the Hillsboro area and
died in 1921. Amelia was born in New Braunfels Texas to Carl and Rosa Schertz and remained
in Hillsboro with her children until her death in 1940.

* Charles and Amelia are buried in the Hillsboro Community Cemetery in Hillsboro New
Mexico. His tombstone reads 1842-1921 and hers 1855-1940. Their daughter in law Duvie
Meyers is also buried there and her tombstone reads 1889-1920.
