Documentation: Census summary:
1840
1850 District 59, Monroe Co, MO
1860 Marion Twp, Monroe Co, MO
1870 Marion Twp, Monroe Co, MO
From the History of Randolph County (MO)- Mr. Gabriel Lackey Alexander's
father, Hon. Gabriel Alexander, was an early settler of Monroe County,
and became a successful farmer and stock-raiser of the county. He was
quite prominent in the early days, and represented the county several
terms in the Legislature. His wife, before her marriage was a Miss Jane
Miller, and both were originally from Kentucky.
Mr. William H H Alexander's parents were Gabriel and Lucinda J (Miller)
Alexander, were originally from Kentucky, but moved to Monroe in 1836,
where Mr. Alexander entered land, improved a farm and remained until his
death, in 1870.
Information from Evelyn Wines- Liberty (MO) Tribune, June 25, 1852-
Monroe- The Whigs of Monroe County met in convention at Paris on the 7th
inst. and nominated the following ticket: For Representative, James M.
Bean (Editor of the Mercury) and Gabriel Alexander - Sheriff, Marion
Biggs - Assessor, John D. Stephens. The convention was composed of ten
delegates from each township with the exception of Indian Creek, from
which but two appeared - being one of the most respectable and
intelligent assemblages of the kind ever convened in Paris, and we hope
it's action will be cordially sanctioned by the Whigs of the county.
