On May 15, 1942 Lloyd enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He left for service overseas on March 8, 1944, and saw service as a Bombardier in aerial combat over Europe. He completed 35 missions with the 8th Air Force in England. Lloyd returned to Midland Army Air Field as a Bonbardier Instructor. On June 27, 1947 Lloyd re-enlisted as a Master Sergeant. On July 14, 1949, Lloyd was killed when the C-82 he was flying in crashed at Wright-Patterson Field in Dayton, Ohio.
