NOTES:
Nicholas is frequently referred to as Honorable Nicholas Pochard
of Anne Sur’leau. It
should be noted that Honorable is a title and not part of his
name. (He was the mayor of
Chenebie.) Anne Sur’leau is almost assuredly Surleau,
his wife’s name.
“The wife of Nicholas was not Marie-Ann Gurteau but rather Anne
Surleau. The trouble
is the name Surleau on the register is also written Gurteau.
The confusion is easy to make
with the capital “S” of the 18th century.” (1)
