MUSTER ROLL FOR THE FORT TOULOUSE GARRISON March 1, 1762 (pages 26-27) Guilliaume Pivotau, Pierre Luquet dit St. Eustache Promoted to Corporal (July 1762). All the Luquettes on the Gulf Coast come from the same ancestor, Pierre Luquet. He resided around Ft. Toulouse, commonly called "aux Alibamons" or "poste des Alibamons", after the tribe of Indians in the area. This fort was established on the Coosa River, near the junction of the Alabama and the Tallapoosa Rivers, from 1717 to 1763, to serve as protection for the colony of Louisiana from the English colonists of Georgia and Carolina. Married soldiers lived near the fort, and when they were not on duty, they farmed the land or practiced their vocations and visited in Mobile to trade for supplies and necessities. After this area was turned over to the English in 1763, soldiers and their families from there moved to settle in Louisiana.
