Obituaries and cemetery records. April 15, 1844, John R. was licensed by the state of Ill, Franklin Co., to work of the ministry-United Baptist Church of Christ at Benton. From Andreas' History of Kansas, 1883, Cot. 25, 1864, "John R. "Uncle Jacky" was a prisoner of Gen. Price during the Civil War raid. He escaped in the night and returned to his family. History of Linn County by Mitchell says, "Uncle Jakey was an old fashioned hard-shelled Baptist preacher. He was loved and respected for his high character as a man..."
