Documentation:
A Chronology Of Fred and Nellie (Potter) Waldmeier
In 1864, Fred married Elizabeth Hilst Rolfe, a widow with three children;
Ralph Rolfs, Carolina Rolfs Arends and Ella Rolfs Gerdes. They made home
on a farm near Manito, Illinois. To Fred and Elizabeth were born six
children, four girls and two boys.

After his first wife's death in 1887, Fred went to Western Kansas to
homestead in Thomas County, North of Winona, Kansas. Nellie Rachel Potter
became his second wife in 1888. Following their marriage, his three
younger children came to live with them for a few years. John remained in
the Winona vivinity to marry and rear his family, but Elizabeth and Fred
II returned to Illinois to make their permanent homes.

Nellie Rachel Potter, daughter of Benjamin Franklin Potter and Rebecca
Hobson was born August 27, 1853 at Oregon, Missouri. Her maternal
grandparents were George and Deborah (Marshall) Hobson and her paternal
grandparents were Stephen and Kezziah (Davis) Potter.

She had three sisters; Lida Potter Galbreath who lived and reared a
family in Topeka, Kansas; Kate Potter Cook, who had one son, William
Cook; and Ella Potter whose married name is not known. Both Kate and
Ella died quite young.

Her father, a Civil War veteran, was a storekeeper in Oregon, Missouri
which Nellie helped him to operate. In 1886, she and her parents came to
Thomas County to homestead. In 1888, she married Fred Waldmeier and lived
on the quarter north of the present George Koons farm in a wood frame sod
house. Irene and Frank were born there.

About 1893, they built and moved into the house which is now the John
James farm north of Winona, Kansas. Her father lived with them
intermittently after her parents moved to Solomon, Kansas. They are
buried there.

Fred died in 1907 at the age of 72 and Nellie died in 1910 when she was
57. They are buried in the Winona, Logan County, Kansas Cemetery. They
were the parents of one son and three daughters.

OBITUARY
Mrs. F. Waldmeyer (Waldmeier)
Colby Tribune, December 15, 1910
The deceased, Mrs. F. Waldmeyer, nee Potter, was born in Oregon, Holt
County, Missouri, on the 25th day of February, 1853. During her early
womanhood, she united with the M.E. church. She lived with her parents in
Oregon, Missouri, until 1886, when she moved with them to Thomas County,
Kansas. While here, she entered the sacred state of mattrimony with Mr.
F. Waldmeyer February 18, 1888. They had the pleasure of enjoying this
state until the year 1907, when Mr. Waldmeyer died. After the death of
her husband she united with the Evangelical Church.
Mrs. Waldmeyer was failing in health during the last two years of her
life and was excluisively confined to her bed since last July. Since her
confinement, she has been suffering great internal pain. But she was
serene and calm in the last moments of her life. Death came to her on the
9th day of December, 1910, at 10:00 pm. Her last words were: Let me up".
During her marriage with Mr. Waldmeyer, four children were born to her;
Miss Irene Waldmeyer, Frank Waldmeyer, Mrs. W.L. Collins, Miss Lyda
Waldmeyer, who is still among the living and mourning the loss of their
mother. Mrs. Waldmeyer also leaves a father, a sister and six step-
children to mourn over her departure.
The interment took place December 11, 1910, at Winona, Kansas, in the
presence of a great throng of friends. Rev. H.H. Wintermeyer, of the
Evangelical Church, officiated at the residence, where the chief address
was delivered on 1 Cor. 15; 42, 43, and at the cemetery.
And the fact that Mrs. Waldmeyer passed away should teach us the
uncertainity of life. Only one thing is certain and that is death; it
will come to us all. Within a few days, weeks, months or years, we must
also obey the Creator's call; and because life is so uncertain and death
certain, let us heed the words of a prophet: "Prepare to meet thy God".
(Amos 1:12)
