Documentation: Sources from Alonzo Thornton's military records, obituary,
biography & census. Alonzo enlisted in the War of the Rebellion in 1862 as a
private in Co. A, 27th Iowa Inf. Vol. He was shot in the neck & jaw, and was
left for dead on the battlefield at Pleasant Hill, LA. He was taken prisoner of
war and confined in rebel prisons. He was release on a prisoner exchange June
1864...Ross was likely Elizabeth's son, Alonzo & Eliza Jane's grandson. Did
Elizabeth E. die from complications of child birth? Eliza Jane would of been
45yrs old & Alonzo's obituary notes they had 8 children, not 9.
