FLORIDA LOCATION — Elsie (Pietila) Nordstrom, 89, of Franklin St., Florida Location in Laurium, and Royal Oak, died December 20, 2002 at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak.
She was born March 29, 1913 in Florida Location, a daughter of Kaisa and Peter Pietila. Elsie attended the Calumet Schools and in 1931, married Robert Nordstrom. The couple resided in Red Jacket Shaft Location before moving to Southfield in 1935 where they raised their family. After retirement in 1971, they returned to Florida Location.
Elsie was employed for 10 years by the Montgomery Ward Company and as department manager for 23 years at the J.L. Hudson Company.
As a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Calumet, she was a participant in the choir, Women’s Fellowship, quilting circle, and chaired many committees. She was a lifetime member of the Keweenaw Historical Society and the American Red Cross. Elsie also worked on the election board for many years.
Surviving are her daughter, Arlene (Gene) Morris of Royal Oak, her son, the Honorable Robert P.M. Nordstrom of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two grandchildren, Raija (Francis) Claeys of Johannesburg and Tyler Nordstrom of Ann Arbor; two great-grandchildren, Tyson and Hayden Claeys of Johannesburg; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Two brothers, Nilo and Henry; and four sisters, Emma Moilanen, Elmie Nelson, Sylvia Lundin and Sally Danis are deceased.
Services will be held in the chapel and graveside at 11 a.m Friday at Lakeview Cemetery in Calumet.
