Warrick County census shows Joel and Amy in 1850, shows Amy along with boys Nicholas, Lawrence and Israel in 1860. Family tales have Joel off to the Civil War but he must have returned to father Sherman in 1865. No other records exist for Joel. It is said he is buried in an unknown grave as a result of the war. Amy is missing by 1870 and all boys are living with different relatives in that census. No known burial site for Amy. Barnett Chapel holds Lawrence. Montgomery Cemetery in Gibson County holds Nicholas. Maple Grove Cemetery in Warrick County holds Sherman.
