Thos Jelf (seal) William Spaulding (seal) This is to certify that I married Thomas Jelf and Jane Spaulding Sep the 25, 1817. Given under my hand this 21st of November 1818. G. I. Waller ================================================================================ General Notes (Wife) ================================================================================ Between January 1829 and June 10, 1830, the date of Jane's death, she moved to Jennings County, Indiana. Probate records indicate that Jane's brother, James Spaulding, her sister Nancy Spaulding Buchannon and possibly other family members had also moved to Jennings County. It can be assumed that because Jane was a widow with young children, that she either accompanied her family or joined them in Indiana. William would have been about ten years old and Isaac eight. Per Isaac's biography he went to Indiana with his mother. William was the oldest, so it is probable that he also went to Indiana with Jane. For reasons unknown, Jane left her daughter, Jane T. Jelf, who was about five years old in Kentucky. It it not known in whose care Jane T. was left. November 11, 1833 John Walker was appointed guardian of Jane's children. May 10, 1836 six years after her mother's death, John Walker resigned as guardian and was reimbursed monies for "going to Kentucky after Jane Jelf, one of the heirs and daughter of Jane Jelf, deceased." It is not clear when he actually brought her to Kentucky. August 1836, John S. Torbet was appointed guardian. William was seventeen, Isaac fifteen, and Jane T. twelve years old. In 1840 William married Isabell Vanuy in Jenning County, Indiana. In 1846 Jane T. married William Bonnifield in Hendricks County, Indiana. Isaac is listed on the 1850 Johnson County, Indiana census. In 1852 he joined the gold rush in California returning to Indiana by 1854. In 1856 Isaac moved to Kansas and was still living there is 1895.
