* Robert Skelton served in Indiana Militia, Capt. Hargove's Company, 4th Indiana Regiment in Battle of Tippecanoe. With William Henry Harrison leading the Indiana Militia, they proceeded to Tippecanoe County, Indiana to destroy the encampment of the Shawnee Indian Tribe lead by the War Leader Tecumseh. On 7 Nov 1811 Robert was wounded by a rifle ball which took part of his fibula bone in the left leg, leaving him 1/4 disabled. The Battle was commenced in the dawn hour by the Spiritual Shawnee Indiana Leader "The Prophet". His indian name was Tenskwatawa and he was a brother to Tecumseh. Tecumseh was in Illinois trying to muster allies to fight the whites and take back the land they considered theirs. "The Prophet saw his chance for glory, and they proceeded to surprise the whites. A sentry however sounded the alarm before the surprise could be launched, and the whites won the battle. The Militia burned the village and all food stores for the winter. Robert was put on the Pension Rolls at the rate of $2.00 per month for his 1/4 disability from his wound. For anyone wishing to know more about Tecumseh and his role in Indiana History I highly recomment "Panther In The Sky" by James Alexander Thom.
