The time it takes is mostly up to each state manager. It
usually takes more time to get started than for maintaining the site.
Some folks spend hours, upon hours getting their web sites to
suit their own personal style, some take a few minutes a day.
It's just your personal preference. We do however, ask that you
update once a month.
If you are interested in a state, let us know. Sometimes there
is only a "baby-sitter" maintaining the state
until a permanent manager is found. It could be that it is not
yet marked up for adoption
If you are interested in becoming a state manager, show us web pages
you have built.
Then, read over & agree to the set of guidelines listed below
Just contact Gina, & myself & let's get started!
1. A link is required from your State Family Group Sheet Project to
the National Project page.
http://www.fgs-project.com/
2. A link is required to your states XXGenWeb, USGenWeb, USGenWeb Archives
&/or USGenWeb State
Archives. A USGenWeb logo must also be displayed
on at least the home page:
3. It is a must to keep a working email address and to notify the National
Manager of any
email changes that pertain to the state sites.
4. Have Fun
5. No State Manager can relinquish their state to another person without
first notifying the National Manager & Assistant Manager.
The National Manager (& Assistant) must approve
all of new coordinators.
6. There will be no living person's information listed on your State
Family Group Sheet Pages.
A reference to "living" with no further info is
permissible
7. All state sites should be updated monthly, IF you have the information
to update with. This lets the visitor know that the site is
being maintained, is not abandoned, and is in good
working order.
8. Provide a search engine. These are probably already on the
site, but just in case
Free Find (http://www.freefind.com/ or Pico (http://www.picosearch.com/)
are some good ones.
9. All information added to the state site will remain with the site
if it is passed to another State Manager.
However, this information is owned by the
person who submitted the data and does not belong to the State Manager.
10. Managers must be subscribed to the FGS-PROJECT mail list.
11. It is mandatory that state managers answer roll call.
These will be about every 4 months. If you don't reply to roll call,
or answer emails,
it will be assumed that
you are no longer available. All managers are responsible to let
the National Manager know about being away
from their computer for any length
of time 7 days or longer.
12. Please keep track of the number of fgs. Preferably this
can be done by noting the total number on your home page, then noting the
amount in numbers under each letter.
13. Items can not be offered for sale by any manager for any reason
14. It is suggested that each state manager have a copyright notice
such as:
Copyright

All rights reserved. This site may be freely linked to but not duplicated
in any manner without written consent.
57. Mostly have fun <g>
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Although we intend to have fun with this project, & do not anticipate
this:
A manager may be dismissed for abandoning their site, being unresponsive
to emails, and/or violation of these guidelines.
