Descendants of Hiram KIRBY

Generation No. 1

1. HIRAM KIRBY
born 1836 in Emanuel County, GA.
His mother was Margaret Kirby, daughter of Moses Kirby. Hiram's father
is unknown at this time, but possibly Dempsey Phillips, with whom Margaret
was living in 1850 (census).
Hiram died Abt. 1873 in SC, as told by some of his descendants. Never
returned from service in the
Confederate Army.

He married LORAHAMA NUNN
September 30, 1855 in Emanuel County - Book A, page 52, daughter of JAMES
NUNN and HOLLY
EDENFIELD. She was born January 1840 in Emanuel County, and died 1911 in
Emanuel County.  Hiram's estate was administered by Lorahama's second husband,
William Henry Gooding.

Hiram Kerby enlisted in Swainsboro March 4, 1862, in Company H, 48th GA
Regiment, under Capt. Neill
McLeod, for a period of "3 years or War." Sent to hospital April 30, 1863.
Listed as absent without leave
from August 1, 1863--last paid May 1, 1863, by Capt. Evans. Then he shows
up on an undated Bounty
Pay and Receipt Roll as receiving $50.00 bounty; his signature (as Hiram
Kerby)
is on this receipt. We then find him listed as present on Hospital Muster
Roll of New School Presbyterian
Church Hospital, Winchester, Virginia, for period September 7, 1862, to
March 1, 1863--Roll dated
November 1, 1862, states H. Kerby was attached to the Hospital and employed
September 27, 1862,
as a cook. Next is a Register of Medical Director's Office, Richmond,
Virginia, showing Hiram Kirby was
admitted to Hendersonville Hospital April 21, 1863, with Oscitis(?).
Clothing Receipt Roll dated May, 1863,
to H. Kirby of Co. H, 48th GA, clothing issued at General Hospital No. 2,
Lynchburg, Virginia--signed by him
(as Kerby). Clothing Receipt Roll dated July, 1863, to H. Curby of Co. H,
48th GA, clothing issued at
1st Division General Hospital, Camp Winder, Richmond, Virginia--receipt is
unsigned. Lorahama is listed
as a widow of a deceased soldier in Emanuel County's Salt List, Sept. 26,
1864.
She is buried in Sandhill Cemetery, Emanuel County.

Gooding for $35.00: 300
acres adjoining land of David Edenfield and others on Northeast and Sarah

January 20, 1876.

She was born October 15, 1862 in Emanuel County, and died November 03, 1953
in Emanuel County.

Sandhill Cemetery, Emanuel County, GA--unmarked grave under large pine
tree. Annie is buried in Nunez Cemetery.
